You can use commercially available templates or make your own custom patterns. The beauty of pattern work with these bits is that what you see is what you get. Whatever size and shape your template, that’s exactly what your project will look like.  There’s no offset to contend with like there is when using template guide bushings. 

These bits were actually developed in response to a customer request.  It seems most of the bowl bits on the market are too short for most home shop CNC machines to be able to cut a reasonably deep recess. So, we gave these extra shank length and made them in both 1/2″ and 1/4″ shank so everyone with any router can get in the game.  

Ultra-Shear borrowed a technique from metal-cutting tool companies to merge solid carbide spiral cutting efficiency with steel shank economy. Our “Carbide Head” bits have a solid carbide blank brazed to a steel shank. After the head is brazed on, the 3-flute slow-spiral cutting pattern is ground to shape, just like our solid carbide spirals. But we don’t have to tie up the machines with turning down the shank, and less machine time means lower prices for you. The result is spiral cutting performance at prices that compete with carbide tipped bits.
